Year 10s embark on Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award Practice Expedition

On Friday 19th to 21st May 2017, MAS students once again descended on The Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) to embark on their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award Practice Expedition. The twenty-five Year 10 students were given an opportunity to practice a range of skills such as camping, cooking and navigation. They gained independence through following maps and compasses to get from one location to another. The students also worked in groups to complete a range of tasks. Although it rained a great deal, this did not deter them from carrying on, and they were able to see some stunning parts of the country during the expedition.

The Duke of Edinburgh programme is a key enrichment programme offered at the academy. It provides our students with key attributes that employers look for namely: leadership, teamwork, self-motivation, communication, confidence, consideration and the ability to learn.

The next expedition is scheduled to take place at the end of June 2017.
