Mulberry Academy Shoreditch girls start the season in style

On Thursday 27th September, a team of Mulberry Academy Shoreditch students from across year groups, played their first game of the season against Sir John Cass School.

The girls were excited about the game after working hard at training over the past few weeks.  However, the initial excitement quickly turned to fear when they saw the size of the Sir John Cass Girls as they walked through the door!

Showing determination and superb resilience, the girls did not show any fear on the pitch whatsoever.  From the first kick of the game, to the final whistle, the students were disciplined, strong and produced some magic moments of skill.  The team were simply fantastic and won the game 3-1.  The support from the gallery was amazing, with over 30 of our girls turning up to either play or spectate.  The team were spurred on from the viewing gallery by both our students and staff and felt very much supported throughout.

Every single player played well, however a few special mentions need to me made.  First to Shannon who was instrumental between the goalposts, producing some unbelievable saves; Laila who scored some incredible goals, followed by some fancy footwork that stopped three players in their tracks before she put the ball in the back of the net; and finally Fatima who marked a Tower Hamlets district player out the game with some ferocious tackles.

Well done to all the students involved from both schools.
