DSC00254T  DSC00266TOn Tuesday 7th November, the Year 12 History cohort flew to Krakow in Poland for a day’s visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp and the Auschwitz-Birkenhau death camp.  The students took part in a guided tour of the complex and learned about some of the atrocities committed there in more detail. At the end of the day they took part in a Remembrance ceremony conducted by a Rabbi and lit candles to bring light into such a dark place.

Comments from the students included:

“The visit was a memorable experience from which we were all able to take lessons from.”

“It taught us that silence and denial contribute to terrible things happening in the past and around the world today.”

“We were reminded of the current situation in Syria and how very few people are doing anything to really address this genocide. The trip put a lot more things into perspective and we are looking forward to continuing as ambassadors for the Holocaust Educational Trust and trying to spread some of the lessons we learnt here.”
