Year 8 Careers trips

During the last week of November, our Year 8 pupils took part in two inspiring experiences designed to broaden their horizons and spark their ambitions: a behind-the-scenes visit to the London Stock Exchange (LSE) and the launch of the IntoUniversity Buddy Programme at UCL East.

A Dynamic Day at the London Stock Exchange

Our trip to the London Stock Exchange offered pupils a rare opportunity to step inside one of the world’s most influential financial institutions. Students learned how global companies are listed, how shares are traded, and how rapid decision-making shapes the economic landscape.

Guided by LSE staff, the group explored interactive displays and real-time trading data, helping them understand how world events can influence financial markets. Pupils particularly enjoyed a workshop on “building a successful company,” where they worked in teams to design and pitch their own business ideas.

Many pupils commented on how exciting it was to see the pace and energy of the financial world up close. For some, it even sparked an interest in careers in finance, economics, or business.

Launching the IntoUniversity & UCL East Buddy Programme

Later in the week, Year 8 took part in the launch of the IntoUniversity Buddy Programme hosted at the state-of-the-art UCL East campus. This initiative pairs our pupils with university student mentors who will support them throughout the year with academic skills, confidence building, and goal-setting.

During the launch event, pupils met their UCL buddies for the first time and took part in team-building activities to help them get to know one another. They also enjoyed a guided tour of the UCL East campus, discovering cutting-edge facilities in engineering, robotics, and urban sustainability.

The programme aims to encourage young people to think about their future pathways and visualise themselves in higher education. Pupils left feeling inspired, supported, and excited about what the year ahead holds.

Both experiences offered Year 8 valuable insights into the world beyond school—from global finance to university life. We are proud of how engaged, curious, and enthusiastic our pupils were throughout both activities.

We look forward to seeing how these opportunities help shape their aspirations and achievements in the months ahead.
