Lord Adebowale full of praise for MAS students

Lord Adebowale

Lord Adebowale

Our students deeply impressed visitor Lord Adebowale on the 22 January with insightful questions, involvement and engagement during an extensive Q&A session.  Alongside a fascinating insight into his work within the House of Lords, Lord Adebowale struck a chord at the academy with his passion for social justice. His impressive accomplishments as the former CEO of Centrepoint, the National Youth Homelessness Charity and his current work as the CEO of Turning Point, a social enterprise aimed at improving the lives of those in disadvantaged communities, created a buzz on the day with students sharing their own thoughtful, profound comments.

MAS students were full of positivity about the visit and are grateful to Steve Bonnick, long-serving member of MAS’s Local Advisory Body, for introducing Lord Adebowale to the academy and being instrumental in this fantastic opportunity coming about.

Lawrencia in Year 13 commented: “I didn’t know very much about the House of Lords before so found this very interesting. I learnt a lot.”’

Abdul in Year 9 was enthusiastic saying: “I really enjoyed this morning – can we do more things like this?!”

Lord Adebowale tweeted that to come to MAS was a “pleasure and a privilege” commending the students saying they: “were a deeply impressive bunch and offered some real diamond thoughts. This is the best talk I’ve been involved in and I’ve been doing this a long time. Your students showed some really deep independent thinking from first principles; whatever you’re doing with them keep doing it!’
