MAS students speak at ‘Horrible Histories’ conference at King’s College London

An audio recording is now available featuring six Year 9 Mulberry Academy Shoreditch students who took part in the Children’s History Society Inaugural Conference, hosted by King’s College London in June 2016.  The students each made a presentation about what history meant to them, and shared with the audience their recent experiences of participating in a project with the Museum of Childhood about British Child Migrants. Layla Sabriye, Saim Islam, Mariyah Islam, Tahmid Miah, Aslihan Yildirim and Basit Choudhury each gave a speech in front of approximately 100 academics at the event, and responded eloquently and passionately to the questions levelled to them by the audience. Each student had prepared their speech carefully and revealed through their words a real maturity in their approach to history and the lives of others.

Event organiser, Dr Simon Sleight of King’s College London, was incredibly impressed with the students and commented on what incredible young historians they were. The Children’s History Society looks forward to working with our students again in the future. On the conclusion of the students’ speeches, one audience member commented ‘When these students run the world, we know it will be in safe hands.’

Congratulations to all the students involved; they were an incredible asset to the academy and showed resilience and courage beyond measure.
