International Women’s Day celebrated in style at MAS

On Friday 8th March, our school celebrated International Women’s Day with a fantastic programme of activities and motivational events!

Highlights of the day included a visit from Heidi Alexander, Deputy Mayor of London for Transport and former MP. Ms Alexander went on a tour of the school, followed by an inspirational round table discussion with Year 12 Politics pupils and three female Year 10 Tower Hamlets Young Mayor candidates, empowering our girls to think about careers in politics. .

Leaders from across the Mulberry Schools Trust met with groups of girls to share their stories and experiences. Dr Ogden, the Trust’s CEO, held an assembly with Year 10 girls to discuss the importance of girls’ education nationally and internationally. Alice Ward, Acting Principal, Mulberry UTC, spoke to girls about her passion for exploring the world and her travels in Africa and beyond. A group of support staff spoke to Year 7s about their careers in marketing and communications, graphic design, computer science and the criminal justice sector.

Other activities included: a Year 7 STEM workshop; Year 8 Women in Sport workshop; an all-girls assembly with Mrs Holden, Executive Principal. The day ended with a Year 11 afternoon tea in recognition of leadership and excellence.
