Year 10 Historians meet Holocaust Survivor

On Monday 11th December, our budding Year 10 Historians met with Holocaust survivor Bernd Koschland to hear about his experiences growing up in Nazi Germany under persecution.  He told the group of students about the fate of his mother and father who were shot at Riga, and how he himself had managed to ‘escape’ on a Kinder transport and was brought up in the UK.

It was a privilege to welcome Bernd to the academy and we hope that by hearing his testimony, our students will be encouraged to learn from the lessons of the Holocaust and make a positive difference in their own lives.

“Meeting with Bernd put problems we have in perspective.  He was so positive even though he had been through such a traumatic time. We often remember stories from the camps, but don’t think as much about those that grew up in Germany at this time and so this was a unique experience.”
