Tower Hamlets Poverty Review July 2021

A group of our students in years 10 and 12 were proud to take part in focus groups with Councillor Asma Begum to provide evidence for the Tower Hamlets Poverty Review. This review sought to identify how the pandemic has affected Tower Hamlets residents and what can be put in place to ensure a strong recovery.

As the report states, “We know that systemic inequalities place some Londoners at greater risk of living in poverty. Poverty cannot be understood separately from social exclusion, discrimination, and racism.”

The students were honoured to play a role in this important social justice work. They spent an afternoon researching and putting together a presentation that presented their concerns about the issues affecting people in Tower Hamlets like gentrification, housing needs, and difficulty accessing work experience and opportunities. The final report can be read here.
