At the end of last term, teachers escorted Year 10 student, Abdul-Basit Ahmed to the final of the Tower Hamlets Public Speaking Competition funded by Lloyds Community Programme.  The annual competition was held at their impressive building in the City and it was a great honour to see Abdul-Basit go on to win overall in the presence of his parents, who were hugely proud of their son.

Having stood out in the first workshop weeks ago, followed by a remarkable achievement during the semi-finals, it was no surprise that Abdul-Basit would go on to take the ‘Judge’s Prize’ award.  He did phenomenally well and unsurprisingly he seemed pretty chuffed with himself on the night.

MAS have been participating in the competition for a few years now, but Abdul-Basit is our first victor and has a silver cup to show for it.  The judges said it was a tough decision as the standard was exceptionally high and they commended Abdul-Basit for his ‘natural style and charismatic confidence’.  It was wonderful to see him deliver his speech without fault, having remembered all 4 minutes off by heart and he managed to make the audience laugh at times too – no small feat.

Well done Abdul-Basit from everyone at MAS.
