Celebrating Dyslexia Awareness Week (1st October – 7th October 2018)

From Monday 1st October – 7th October, the academy were busy raising awareness for Dyslexia Awareness Week.  We rolled out a school-wide effort to endorse Dyslexia awareness for the first time at Mulberry Academy Shoreditch.

The week began with a presentation during tutor time to engage the students in thinking and talking about Dyslexia.  They completed quizzes and we showed them pictures of celebrities and academy staff who have Dyslexia.  We also showed two short films: one entitled “Seeing Dyslexia Differently” and the other “How does it feel to have Dyslexia”

Thursday 4th October was Dyslexia Day (Go Green for Dyslexia) so staff supported by wearing something green.

The week ended with students from across year groups, baking cupcakes with the support of staff.  During break the students approached staff and asked them a question about Dyslexia.  The lucky staff who answered the question correctly were rewarded with a cupcake.  It was great to see so many staff participating.

Thank you to everyone who supported Dyslexia Awareness Week.
