Train to teach at
Mulberry Academy Shoreditch

Mulberry Academy Shoreditch is a successful 11-19 school located in East London, and is part of the Mulberry Schools Trust.

A key part of the culture at our school is our strong sense of professional obligation to people entering the teaching profession.  As a result, we have a high proportion of ‘Beginning Teachers’ within our teaching staff who bring considerable benefits to the school and our students.

MAS is working in partnership with the Institute of Education. Click here to find out more about the IoE.

What makes Mulberry Academy Shoreditch a fantastic place to train?

Mulberry Academy Shoreditch has a proven track record of outstanding progress for training teachers; last year all 4 school-based training teachers (Teach First and School Direct) were graded ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’. By joining MAS you will be joining a committed, hardworking and collegiate team, offering a strong, informal network of support and inspiration. The informal learning opportunities are supplemented by a comprehensive school-based professional programme, which will be tailored to meet the specific requirements of your course and your individual learning needs.

You will be supported by a more experienced, outstanding teacher who will act as your school-based mentor. They will meet with you regularly to support your progress, help guide your improvements and challenge you to become the teacher you want to be.

If you think you have the passion, energy and drive to excel, we look forward to hearing from you.

School Experience Programme

Mulberry Academy Shoreditch has a track record of supporting potential teacher applicants and Beginning Teachers in their early career.  We support several universities to host PGCE placements and also employ teachers on the Teach First and School Direct schemes. We are proud to support the School Experience Programme (SEP), which offers you an opportunity to visit the academy to gain experience in a secondary school. The SEP will strengthen your application and preparation for interview for your chosen ITE programme and give you an insight into teaching.

What happens on a School Experience Programme?

We offer bespoke programmes from 1-10 days, planned around your particular interests and availability, and will include opportunities to observe and support the learning of students in a range of lessons across the school. You will also be able to meet with teachers to find out more about your potential career.

The initial school day usually begins at 8.00am with breakfast, during which you can meet your host teachers. The visit will usually finish at 3:30pm, although you may be able to join in with afterschool activities, or staff meetings after this.
