Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions

DofE1 DofE2

This month our Year 9 and 10 explorers completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award practice expedition in Epping Forest.

As part of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme, students have to develop orienteering and bush craft skills, including putting up tents and cooking outdoors. The attitude and behaviour from all students was impressive as they made a positive impact on our neighbouring campers and the locals they encountered!

Alongside the walking and the camping the students had plenty of opportunities to demonstrate their exceptional teamwork skills as one of our students managed to find themselves stuck waist height in a waterlogged and severely muddy field! Without any prompting the rest of the group decided to make a human chain to help pull her to safety whilst trying to keep her bag from getting too muddy and wet!

The Duke of Edinburgh assessor said they demonstrated fantastic map reading, great teamwork and exceptional leadership skills.

Well done to the students and thank you to all staff who supported and made this possible. We look forward to seeing you showcase your newly acquired skills during the qualifying expeditions in West Sussex and the South Downs – Good Luck!
