Publication of Provisional National GCSE results (October 2016)

Please see attached letter from the Department for Education and an update on the academy’s performance following the recent publication of provisional national GCSE results.  In the letter, Tim Coulson, Regional Schools Commissioner for East England and NE London, congratulated the academy on our provisional examination achievements this summer, particularly the broader demands of Progress 8.

Mr Coulson said: “It was very impressive how well and quickly your staff have adapted and taught children to the standards required. These results come about through back-breaking work. Congratulations to you and your colleagues for doing so well.”

The academy’s Progress 8 score of 0.7 places us in the top 1% of schools nationally. In other areas, 83% of our students achieved A* to C grades in English and maths, 24 percentage points above the national average, and 37% of our students achieved the English Baccalaureate (EBACC), attaining A* to C grades in the core academic subjects of English, maths, sciences, history or geography and a language.  This is 14 percentage points above the national average.  Our students also achieved an Attainment 8 score of 54.5, 6.3 points above the national average (48.2) and 4.5 points above the Tower Hamlets’ average (50).

Attainment 8 measures the achievement of our students across 8 subjects and Progress 8 measures how well they have achieved across these 8 subjects compared to pupils with similar attainment at the end of primary school.

We are delighted with the achievement of our students and staff.  It is a reflection of their hard work and testament to the outstanding quality of education being delivered at our academy.
