Pioneering new language school proposed for Tower Hamlets

The Green Spring Educational Trust, the Trust responsible for Mulberry Academy Shoreditch, which is graded ‘Outstanding’ in all categories, is delighted to announce plans to open a pioneering, brand-new school in the E14 postcode area of Tower Hamlets. Its provisional opening date is September 2016.

The London International New School will be London’s first 4-19 state school specialising in languages and bilingual education. The school’s mission is to prepare young people to contribute to a global society and to compete in the global workplace. A challenging curriculum and extensive internationally-focused enrichment program will equip students with outstanding academic results and international understanding and respect. The school will develop London’s young people into fulfilled, accomplished individuals who are prepared for higher and further education and the global workplace.

The school will help address the rapidly rising demand for new school places in the area. As identified by Tower Hamlets Council, over the next ten years, the proposed area for the school will see an increase of up to 80% in school-aged children for both the Primary and Secondary phase.

All students will end the primary phase fluent and literate in both Spanish and English thanks to an immersiveSpanishcurriculumwhichbeginsinReception. Asstudieshaveshown, beingactively bilingual can increase the brain’s efficiency at relaying information. The importance of learning Spanish in particular has been highlighted by the British Council who, in 2012 indicated that Spanish is the ‘most important’ language for the UK’s future. In the secondary phase, the curriculum will continue to build language proficiency by offering a wide range of further languages, including Mandarin Chinese, German, Arabic, Bengali and Latin.

The sponsor, Green Spring Educational Trust, has a proven track record for excellence in education, having developed Mulberry Academy Shoreditch into one of the most outstanding schools in London. In 2014 the school was in the top 1% for English, Maths and Science. The Trust plans to build on this success with the London International New School, granting children exceptional educational guidance while providing a wealth of opportunities for personal development and employability in an increasingly global world.

Mark Keary, CEO of the Trust, commented:

“The London International New School will be a pioneering new school both locally and nationally. In today’s globalworld, thebenefitsoflearningaforeignlanguagecannotbeunderestimated. Thereisalsoa significant need for new school places in London, so the school will provide an excellent new option for local parents and their children. Combined with the vision, ethos and approaches which have made Mulberry Academy Shoreditch so successful, we foresee an extremely promising future for the new school.”

The Trust will be holding two information events, on Saturday 31 January 2015 and Saturday 7 February 2015, where visitors can learn more about the plans for the school and its language- based curriculum, as well as ask any questions they may have. Interactive activities showcasing the curriculum to children will also be on offer.
