Passing on a belief in tolerance and unity

On Monday 20th March and Tuesday 21st March 2017, Year 10 and Sixth Form students welcomed campaigner Mike Haines to the academy.  Mr Haines is the brother of David Haines, a British aid worker who died at the hands of terrorists in 2013. Since his brother’s death, Mr Haines has travelled the world spreading a message of respect, unity, tolerance and understanding.

Mr Haines spoke passionately about his campaign and his ethical and moral fight against those that hate.  Students were truly moved by Mr Haines’ candid approach and his genuine desire to counteract hatred and intolerance.  They asked many insightful questions and discussions between students and staff continued throughout both days.

“My visit to Mulberry Academy Shoreditch was one of the high points of the tour that I have been on. From the reception by the students, the facilities to the organisation. The response from all the students concerned was incredible. So many questions so many wonderful messages of support, even better were the promises and determination to continue the spirit of humanity and work for peace. That United stand against hate is what makes the campaign mean something. Thank you Green Spring.”
