On Friday 19th May, Year 8 students were given an opportunity to take part in a series of art workshops to prepare them for their GCSE study in Art.The Sculpture in the City workshops is a unique collaboration between the City of London Corporation, local businesses and the art world and offers exciting opportunities for young people to engage with a complementary education outreach programme, run by Open City.  MAS students are given the opportunity to work with artists, architects and engineers to explore and creatively respond to the public spaces, buildings and sculptures that surround them. This is part one of a three session workshop.  During the session students looked at different buildings dotted around the area with architects and engineers at Broadgate Tower and Aviva Square, followed by a Q&A session at the end.

Sixth Form student Ayse Sik, also accompanied the students on the trip and said: “I accompanied a group of Year 8 students on a trip to the Broadgate Tower in Liverpool street.  We went up to the 11th floor and met the engineers and architects who designed the buildings.  In the workshops the Year 8 group had a career talk about the different roles that are needed to create a building.  They were also given a sketchbook and worked with architects to draw landmarks, looking at the shape and composition of the skyline of London.”
