MAS launches fourth WinterFest Programme

The academy’s fourth annual winter festival of arts, culture, learning and social action runs from Friday 1st December to Wednesday 20th December. Once again, our fundraising efforts will be in aid of the First Love Foundation, the charity responsible for the Tower Hamlets Foodbank.  All money raised during the campaign will be donated to this most worthy cause.

Social action continues to be a priority at the academy and during WinterFest our Foodbank appeal will be asking for donations of long-life, non-perishable foods like tinned fruit, vegetables and meats, as well as toiletries such as toothpaste and shower gel. We hope to collect as much as possible for those in need this Christmas.  Our students have set themselves the target of collecting at least 1000 food items this year.

This year’s festivities also include lunchtime choral performances in The Street by our very own MAS Vocal Group, as well as student and staff choirs.  Upper and lower school students will take part in a range of drama performances: an evening performance of our Sixth Form drama students’ A Level course work on Thursday 7thDecember, a Year 9 evening performance of The Woman in Black on Wednesday 13th December and our much anticipated Year 8 Pantomime performance on Friday 15th December. The annual MAS Christmas Music Concert on Thursday 14th December promises to be yet again a tuneful treat featuring our many talented musicians from across the academy. During the concert, we will have a handful of stalls selling stocking fillers, refreshments and our very own MAS jam and chutney, as well as arts and crafts. All money raised will go towards the Foodbank Fund.

We will be recognising excellence and achievement in Science and Maths at the Nobel Prize Awards, taking place on Tuesday 12th December.  It is set to be an exciting evening of experiments and celebrations, as we recognise the progress of our budding scientists and mathematicians.

Continuing with our fundraising efforts, on Friday 15th December 2017, students and staff will pay £1 to be adorned in their best festive jumpers to celebrate our annual Christmas Jumper Day.

As events draw to a close, our students will run a stall at the Farmers’ Market at Mulberry Place selling delicious produce grown and produced here at MAS, and there will be a final opportunity to raise money for the Food Love Foundation during our Non-Uniform Day on Tuesday 19th December.

Highlights of all these events will be shared across our social media feeds, so please check our Twitter and Facebook pages regularly to keep up to date with all the latest activities.

A round-up of the activities can be found within our WinterFest Programme here.
