Girl Leading Residential in Somerset

On Friday 21st April 2017, five MAS students set off for ‘Girl Leading’ a two-night residential at Kilve Court Residential Centre in Somerset led by Mulberry School for Girls. MAS was selected as one of 10 partner schools to attend.

Girl Leading supports the work of Let Girls Learn, the girls’ education initiative launched in the UK by former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama at Mulberry School forGirls in 2015. The weekend focussed on developing leadership skills in girls, with a particular focus on leadership for social change.

Throughout the two days, students took part in a range of hands-on sessions combining discussion, practical work and written work to build confidence and leadership skills. The MAS girls were fantastically behaved, participating in all events with great enthusiasm despite being out of their comfort zones.

Students developed awareness about issues that girls face across the globe and are incredibly excited about their ongoing project on forced marriage. The girls will be meeting to feed back on the progress and outcomes of their leadership challenges at an event in July.

Huge congratulations to all the students for their outstanding contributions and for representing the academy exceptionally well.
