Danish students fly to London to see Mulberry Academy Shoreditch

On Wednesday 4 March, a group of Sixth Form students from a school in Denmark paid a visit to Mulberry Academy Shoreditch, as part of an educational trip to the UK. The visit gave our own Sixth Form students the chance to engage with their peers from abroad, enriching their international outlook and broadening their horizons and understanding of other cultures.

The Danish students and staff were given a tour of the academy and the outstanding learning environment we provide. As part of their tour, they were invited to join Ms Wallace’s Year 13 English class, where they took part in discussions on Angela Carter’s short story collection The Bloody Chamber. Our guests acquitted themselves extremely well, with the MAS students extremely impressed by their English language proficiency.

The visit also gave both sets of students the chance to talk about their respective educational experiences, discussing the similarities and differences between schools in the UK and Denmark.

One fact which emerged from the conversations was that university tuition is free of charge in Denmark, which left some of our students somewhat envious!

On leaving the academy at the end of the day, one of our guests, Silde Sjolander, commented: ‘Thank you for allowing us into your school – it was really great!’.

Following up on the visit, Margit Nordskov, commented: ‘We enjoyed and profited from the English lesson on Gothic Literature and we all learned more about the English school system, some us realised that we were underdressed! The students enjoyed interacting with your students and we left in a joyous mood.’

The visit proved to be a hugely enriching experience for both our Sixth Form students and our Danish guests, and an important event as part of our commitment to engaging with schools and young people from across the globe. Our guests invited our students over to Denmark to visit them, and we look forward to arranging this trip in the near future.
