On Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 December, MAS students from Years 11 and 12 took part in the Model United Nations Conference at the International Maritime Organisation in London. Joining groups from schools from across the globe, the conference represented a stern test of the students’ listening, debating and reasoning skills, as well as a chance to interact with students from abroad.

In the weeks leading up to the conference, students in each group were given a topic to prepare for the conference, giving them the opportunity to conduct in-depth research into international issues and come up with their own proposed solutions at the conference, as well as learn more about the formal procedures for debate and discussion at the UN. Our students delivered a series of articulate speeches on their assigned topic, remaining heavily engaged in the debates throughout the two days, while making many new friends along the way.

Two of our students also received a Distinguished Delegate award, an exclusive accolade awarded to those who show exemplary diplomacy, knowledge and collaboration in drafting the resolution. All the students who took part left with renewed awareness and enthusiasm for international relations, with many now eager to pursue further leadership opportunities through these conferences. Well done to all involved!
