MAS highly praised by DfE following new free school unveiling

5th February 2016

Mulberry Academy Shoreditch received recognition this morning as the academic model for Green Spring Education Trust’s new free school ‘Green Spring New School’.
The new school has been approved by the DfE and will be based on the successful formula of MAS; offering students an education focusing on academic excellence, artistic expression, cultural enrichment and social responsibility.

The Trust will be working closely with the Department of Education to identify the site in East or North East London and to agree the date of opening; the Trust’s preferred date is September 2017.

This venture will bring with it new opportunities for the staff and students of Mulberry Academy Shoreditch as well as the wider community.

The Department of Education commended MAS, commenting: “The trust also runs the oversubscribed Mulberry Academy Shoreditch (MAS), judged to be outstanding by Ofsted. MAS’s GCSE results exceeded national and local averages, with 90% of pupils achieving 5 GCSEs at A* to C, including English and maths, in 2015. Green Spring New School will provide 1,100 places for 11- to 19-year-olds and will offer the same excellent education that is on offer at MAS.”
