Mulberry Academy Shoreditch wins coveted Pupil Premium Awards prize

Students and staff at Mulberry Academy Shoreditch are in celebratory mood after receiving a £5,000 prize in the Key Stage 4 category of the 2015 Pupil Premium Awards. The accolade comes after the academy was recognised as being one of the highest achieving schools in the country for the progress disadvantaged students made in terms of attainment since 2011, and marks yet another success story in the academy’s glowing recent history.

In a personal letter to the academy, Minister of State for Schools David Laws also praised the academy for reaching a position among the top 90 schools in England showing the greatest sustained improvement in the percentage of students gaining five or more GCSEs including English and Maths. In addition, Mr Laws commended the academy’s status as one of the top 100 non-selective state schools in England for the value added to students’ education between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4.

Mr Laws commented: “I would like to congratulate your staff, governors, parents and pupils for their hard work and success, and thank you for your leadership in making such a difference to the future success of your pupils. Finally, I would also encourage you to share your achievements with other schools so that they can learn from your strengths and experience.”

Mark Keary, Principal of Mulberry Academy Shoreditch, added: “We are delighted with the recognition we have received for this year’s Pupil Premium Awards. The award is testament to the hard work that everyone at the academy contributes on a daily basis, and we are proud to be among the top-performing schools in the country for the value we add to our students’ education. The prize money will be invested in improving our offer even further, ensuring that our students continue to benefit from an education of the highest quality, regardless of their background or starting point.”

While the award represents a remarkable achievement in itself, the academy will also be submitting an application for the larger prizes on offer, entering the running for the top national prize of £250,000. The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday 25 March, with Mulberry Academy Shoreditch eagerly anticipating the opportunity to celebrate its latest success.
